Hi everybody!

Well, it’s been one month to the day since I returned to the States from Sri Lanka, ending this year's “season.”

Now I’ve had a month to get over jet lag (took about a week), re-adjust to rich and not-so nutritious Western food (took about two weeks), and adjust to the cooler, dryer temperatures (still working on that, and I’m in Southern California – not Minnesota!), I can take the time to reflect on the past months, and start to strategize for next year. Hi Everybody!

OK, many people come here and wonder how they’ll manage the bathroom situation. So I thought I had better give you the low-down on what, why, and more importantly, how. If you have delicate sensibilities, all I can do is quote: “you’d better buckle up – it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.”

Hi everybody!

Ok, so you’re walking down the street in Colombo, or Batticaloa, or in some small hamlet. On the street you will sometimes see public behavior that you might find shocking, repulsive, downright rude, or some combination of the three. So that you are prepared, I thought I’d write a few lines about what you might see. So in the best Miss Manners tradition, here we go:

Hi everybody!

I thought I’d write a few words (ha!) about some medical issues here, such a malaria, vaccinations, over-the-counter drugs, etc. I’m also tacking on some words about toiletries at the end.

Hi there.

I thought I’d write a general letter on what kind of clothes to bring if/when you come to Sri Lanka. You’ll notice that women, unfortunately, bear the majority of cautions and dont's. Sorry, but that’s the way it is.
