ABDF.org is a recipient of a Google Grant award.

The Google Grants program supports organizations sharing Google’s philosophy of community service to help the world in areas such as science and technology, education, global public health, the environment, youth advocacy, and the arts.

Designed for 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, Google Grants is a unique in-kind advertising program harnessing the power of Google AdWords advertising product. Google Grants has awarded AdWords advertising to hundreds of non-profit groups whose missions range from animal welfare to literacy, from supporting homeless children to promoting HIV education.

ABDF.org is very grateful to Google, Inc. for this grant.

Mangikkadu School Fence Project

  • Location: Mangikkadu, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka
  • Recipients:30 students, two teachers
  • Objective:Security fence for a school
  • Final cost:$590 US

Mangikkadu, the site of one of our water tank projects, is a village of 127 households about 9 km west of Batticaloa. It is on the opposite (“land-side”) shore of the lagoon that separates Batticaloa from the interior. Until 2007 it was LTTE-held territory. This meant that development was almost non-existent before the government re-took the area, and today development is an extremely slow process.

Well, I feel a lot better today. Yesterday I was sick. Every year around this time I seem to get some sort of 24 hour virus. It’s a typical cold; fever, congestion, cough and some joint pain. Getting a cold in the tropics is miserable because with the fever you are never comfortable.
