This is a great example of ABDF acting as a conduit for other people to carry out their own projects. We were contacted by Angela, a woman living in South Carolina. She was a St. Cecilia’s Girls’ School alumna and had recently reconnected with her old school chums in Batti and around the world. She expressed a desire to help her old alma mater, which was the site out our English Library Project.

After extensive correspondence between Angela, Project Director Bennett Hinkley, and Sister Elizabeth, the schools’ principal, we developed a list of needs for the school, and prioritized it. First on the list was a set of multimedia equipment to be used for teaching large classes, and a computer setup for the above mentioned English Library. The purchases included:

Unloading the delivery truck.

A multimedia projector

A laptop with which to run the projector

A large free-standing screen

A scanner

A desk top computer for the English Library

A computer table for the desk top

The project was conceived and carried out just before the end of our 2009 season in Batticaloa (delivery to St. Cecilia’s was made the day before Bennett left Batti), and we are very happy that were nonetheless still able to finish this project up.

Second priority was St. Cecilia’s music program.
